We have the following varieties of plums: Methley*, Santa Rosa*, Bruce, Burbank, Stanley, Damson, Toka, Elephant Heart, Duarte, Oblinaga, Satsuma, Green Gage, Yellow Egg and Shiro.
As the winter of 2011 ends and spring comes, we await the time of blossoms on the plum trees. They are beautiful and smell wonderful. It is always amazing how fast the baby fruit starts forming after the petals fall from the blossoms. We will need to do some thinning which is always hard for me to do. I hate to pull off some of the little fruits, but if this isn’t done all the fruit stays little and it stresses the tree. So, we close our eyes to what we are doing and pull off fruit, spacing them so the ones left have room to grow.
